What are classes like?
Classes begin with a warm-up and then move into drills of basic stances, punches and kicks. Depending on advancement, students work on forms specific to their level. Practical applications to the techniques that have been learned are given.
Do I have to be in good shape to take a class?
Every beginner is encouraged to go at their own speed. As with other activities, strength and stamina will improve the more you attend classes. Even at advanced levels, everyone is looking to improve physical ability. As with any physical activity, we encourage you to consult your physician if you have questions about your ability to complete class.
How long does it take to get a black sash?
Students get a black sash when they are ready and not before. We are not in the “belt business” so to speak. To get a black sash in our system requires understanding, practice and ability that can only be acquired by years of application. We accept nothing less than that from our students. However, on average, it takes a minimum of 3 ½ years to earn a black sash.
Who will be teaching me?
Elder Master Garry Mullins oversees all of the classes at our school in Johnson City. However, there are other instructors that may be leading warm ups and classes. All are students of Elder Master Garry Mullins and are under his strict supervision.
Do I have to sign a contract?
We use a local billing agency for our payments, and because of filing requirements, we do require a three month minimum, but you are not locked into a long term contract.
Are there other costs?
Here at Mullins Martial Arts we are proud to claim that we are the only martial arts school in the Tri-Cities area with no hidden fees! One fee covers the cost of both Kung Fu and Tai Chi classes. And unlike most other martial arts schools, there is never a fee to test. That, along with the best trained staff in the area, makes us the best deal imaginable!
